We Have Re-opened – with Extra COVID Safety Procedures in Place

We are thrilled to have been able to re-open our office to patients on June 1, 2020!

For your safety and ours, we have implemented additional safety measures due to COVID-19/coronavirus.

Before you come in, we will ask you a few questions about potential COVID exposure. If you are symptomatic or have been recently exposed to the virus, we will schedule your appointment further in the future.

When you arrive for your appointment, we will ask you to wait in your car until we’re ready to see you. Just phone us and let us know that you’re here.

We will expect you to wear a mask upon entering. We’ll then check your temperature and ask you to rinse before being seated in the treatment room.

Our regular disinfection measures include steam sterilization and surface disinfection with peroxide-based disinfecting systems, and the use of ozone water in our water lines.

We also filter the air with units that combine HEPA filters with UV light. These constantly circulate, sterilize, and clean the air, and now run all day long.

We have also begun running activated oxygen machines for a few hours each night to further disinfect bacteria and viruses from the air. Flooding the room with activated oxygen at night keeps the air safe and clean during the daytime.

We also use essential oil diffusers to keep the air clean, just as hospitals have done for the past 8 to 10 years. The unique oil blend we use is 100% organic. We understand, though, that some people have sensitivities, so our diffusers are compact and for personal use. The same diluted food grade hydrogen peroxide we use to treat viral infections can also be used in these diffusers.

We look forward to seeing you here in our office soon!

  • Our Mission

We provide a multifaceted integrative treatment approach focusing on the individual patient and their unique needs. We work closely with our patient’s health care providers including MD’s, DO’s, naturopaths and chiropractors to create the most ideal treatment for each patient. The connection between the teeth, gums and jaws to the rest of the body is quite widely known and our focus is on treatment and therapies that are non toxic and biocompatible. The goal is to create a harmonious relationship between the mouth and the rest of the body. We treat children and adults in our state of the art office in calm peaceful surroundings.

In our attempt to be a green office, we have recycled products throughout along with very low VOC materials. We use filtration systems and ionizers to keep the air we breathe pure and clean. An amalgam separator reduces the environmental impact of mercury. We use steam sterilization instead of chemical sterilization to reduce chemical residues. Our surface disinfectants are effective and non toxic. Use of digital X-rays minimizes the amount of waste created while going paperless means less trees being cut down for paper.

Biologic Dental

Biologic Dentistry is very important to us here, let us tell you how we define these two words. Biologic Dentistry is traditional dentistry with some extras, namely the awareness of the connection of the oral cavity with the rest of the body. It involves an attitude to always seek the safest, least toxic way to accomplish the mission of treatment and to do it while creating minimal effects on the rest of the body. The mouth and overall health of the body cannot be separated and much attention is being placed on the connection between gum disease and cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer risk. It is a well known fact that gum disease in pregnant women has been implicated in leading to low birthweight babies as well as bringing about preterm labor. As the awareness of the systemic connections of what goes on in the mouth and the rest of the body grows, so does the need to provide the best treatment options with the least systemic repercussions. We continually strive to find new and better ways to help individuals get and stay healthy, always seeking materials and techniques that are as bio-compatible as possible while balancing the needs of preserving the chewing system.

We have chosen to be not only mercury free which means we don’t place mercury amalgam fillings, but we are also mercury safe which means we use strict protocols as outlined by the IAOMT in the removal of mercury amalgam fillings. The highest exposure to mercury occurs when mercury amalgam fillings are placed as well as removed and our care in removing them safely means that you as the patient as well as the dental team are protected against exposure.

Dr. Sue Shoha Biography

For over 25 years, I have been practicing general family and cosmetic dentistry in the local area. I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan Dental School in 1988 and before that a Bachelor in Science degree from New York University in 1984.. From a young age I knew I would be a physician and in high school I realized I could combine my love of art work with science to become a dentist. Although I really like the technical, detail oriented aspects of excellent dentistry, most of all, I enjoy the connection with my patients. Each one comes in with different issues and concerns and our journey is to create the best possible dental wellness as a team, with my patient (or family) taking an active role.

I am a mother of 3 children and have spent a fair amount of time in doctors offices so I understand firsthand the concerns and anxieties of being a patient. My staff and I strive to treat each person we see with kindness, respect and compassion. We know that coming to see us can be a stressful experience for some and we work hard to help alleviate that discomfort. I have been a yoga teacher for many years and employ some of the same techniques while treating patients. This includes using specific deep breathing techniques to help lower heart rate thereby reducing the fight or flight response. My patients really appreciate this holistic approach and feel less anxious and tense.

On a personal note, I like to stay active by running, doing yoga and water sports in the summer and skiing in the winter. My family and I focus on creating a balanced healthy lifestyle eating a wholesome primarily plant based diet, staying active and creating positive connections with family and friends and the rest of the community.
